I'm hearing that web portfolios are becoming more common. Does anyone have any experience where their web portfolio substituted for the printed, bound version for a school application, job interview, or project proposal?

Personally, I like having the paper in my hand (and I think architects in general do?) but I can also imagine the interactive possibilities of a digital one.

And what tools are you using to create your online portfolio? HTML/CSS, Flash, a portfolio website?

1: you are thinking too hard.....

2: I did my portfolio in Adobe Illustrator like any other portfolio........manipulate pics, text all in that program......

3: when you save save as a pdf (smallest file size) then combine them.. when you combine them you will have a complete Pdf. to e-mail firms like I did.

My portfolio is a rather private affair these days, but I,d love to design another one excluding the last 30yrs. I have rolls of paper now which I cant possibly use for interviews although the projects are worthy of some consideration. I must admit with the Picassa site available I,m certainly going to give it a try but the virtual bit I will need some advice. My 3D is getting standard class look but my efforts in line are a little stronger. I dont like to overstate my case, the laws of nature have always triumphed and everything has been done before me.
Originality doesnt mean much to me anymore it is quality and the perception of the material you want to live with that matters. The details are best kept simple= its the way we shape it.

I must try to go forward. That means online portfolios are essential for the digital age. At least there is no problem with storage space. A3 sheets have always followed me around in the last 10=15yrs. This size has been acceptable for me to carry and OK for interviews.
To win more contract with web portfolios sounds really good. I dont have work just now and in the past after studying I seemed to be doing work for nothing, so the Public sector was my salvation and my only method of survival. Private commercialworks to me I could not rely on even a small quantity for bread and butter. Most rich clients are that way because they careful with there resources.

I have one. I am not the designer on these, just the 3D Architectural illustrator.
