Paola Antonelli senior curator of design and architecture at New York’s Museum of Modern Art tell us how the focus of design is shifting from the production of finite goods to a practice of experimentation, ideas taken precedence over products.
Do you think the production of ideas is becoming more important than the making of things?

I'm glad you posted the link to this interview, because she brings up some important shifts - as profound but considerably faster than those our forebears underwent during the Industrial Revolution.

I definitely agree in principle: the poles of design have lightened, we are freer of geographical, fabrication, and communication-related constraints than ever before, while facing different concerns (economic, environmental). I am excited by the new reality: that the production of ideas is the key, because we now have the ability to spread and manufacture those ideas with relative ease.

You can't make things if you don't have the ideas!

What to do, how to do...why to do... Paola Antonelli pointed an interesting location of design development (schools). Design is a field where you have all your life something new to learn. Therefore an educational medium is most suitable for design's growing. In one way is wonderfull that very young people have the oportunity to realize thir dreams, but on the other hand l consider it should be organized such "design ideas poionts" where also older designers might be helped in the same way to realize their ideas. Unfortunatelly the society still makes differences between generations in terms of "capital" and investments.

Whatever... "to do" is most important. And if you have ideas then you can do it even better!
:) Sometimes l use to say that quote: "Our future depends on our dreams! So let's go to sleep!" (of course it is said everytime when it's getting late, tired and the sleep becomes a must.)
yeah, i think production of ideas is becoming more important in todays context then its making.
and what i feel sometimes even the ideas are superimposed on cetain things later on after that product is made.

It seems that some architects have nightmares instead of dreams, do not you think?
