Calling yourself Architect - is the meaning evolving or being misused

Professionals in the field of computer science/information technology call themselves "Architects". I often see articles about "Architecture" as the ability to create or maintain virtual networks and software structure... which in my mind is an activity that pertains to engineering rather than to architecture. These professionals design/manage virtual information. That is not architectonic - I think. I am intrigued, about the opinion of Architects in this forum regarding these questions... Is the meaning evolving or being misused? Should our boards clarify and protect the actual meaning or is it ok that the meaning is extended to other fields as it is happening?

Imagine the confusion fore those who begin the arquitecture carreer, and discover that they have to design houses and buildings... what a horror!.

I thought architecture was about computer sistems...jaja
Yes! the correct term is COMPUTER ARCHITECT! - IT's all about computer architecture and not a Building Architect. - "a system Architect" Yikes!!!:D
I personally think they are either Information Technology Technicians or Engineers specialized in Information Technology systems...
Well considering the current situation, Building Information Modelling is the in thing!
BIM software facilitates an improved way of working collaboratively, using a model created from coordinated, consistent design information.
This process enables earlier decision-making, better documentation, and the evaluation of alternatives for sustainable design or improvements using analysis before construction begins.

So if the computer science/information technology fields are helping us to achieve quick results , let them have our title!
IT Architects create systems of information technology... ours of means of construction but with an intrinsic purpose of creating spaces which their systems don't, nor have anything to do about space. BIM's are not created by IT Architects, but by the traditional architects and engineers that design and model buildings... spaces.... for coordination purposes. The BIM's are not created by the tool/s or systems that manage the way information is managed... the knife does not create the box...

Today I also read a thread in Linkedin with the same discussion in the architecture & interiors group. Check it out: http://www.linkedin.com/groupAnswers?viewQuestionAndAnswers&dis...
Not to mention that there are several things that if you use one of these BIM products you know as an Architect are just intrinsically wrong as far as how a building works vs how the software thinks it works.
To many people the term engineer has a certain stigma to it and a perception of being dorky, wearing glasses, being good at math and bad at communicating with human beings and other things that sound less cool than being an Architect. I have heard that in some states your job title may only include the word architect if you are in fact an Architect. I don't know if this is true but I can see how it could be.
I RESEMBLE THESE COMMENTS !!!!!

ARE YOU TRYING TO SAY IT AINT SO ?
Yes, what I'm trying to say is that there are so many labels in this world and perceptions that coincide with them. It isn't right that they exist, or play such a role on the way we are perceived by people who don't know us but sadly that is the way the world works. I also resemble these comments.
