It look like a beautiful place.  Do not destroy the jungle! Why not only remove the trees that can destroy the walls? If they do it right, both the castle and the jungle can be saved.  Just look around the world to learn what they do in similar cases.

Beautiful.

If you remove only vegetation that directly contributes to the stone/mortar degradation on the surface

and root damage to the foundations, is there still an issue? Historically fields of view would have been

important for the security of the castle, and that should be considered in terms of trying to approach originality of place. 

Along those lines allowing sunlight to reach the wall surfaces to allow for a daily drying cycle may be more

historically accurate as well as beneficial for the masonry integrity.

Dear Farimah,

This place is indeed beauty: Jungle and the castle, both!

Factor 1: Human interventions, particularly the civilized societies, destroy forests. The extraordinary example is Angkor Wat, Cambodia. There was a megacity which vanished. And the temple, which is still there, was taken over by the plants – jungle. Most of the jungle has been cleared to save the temple.

 

Factor 2: How do we consider history, and the lessons of history? This could be debatable aspect. Hence I don’t comment, because I personally do not want to carry the burden of history.

 

Factor 3: Permaculture concept may help to resolve some conflicting issues in this case, by monitoring human intervention, to restore both. Jungles or forests indeed are lifeline for all the living beings, not only humans – in the Past, Present and Future. It is a fallacy to talk alone of the Third Ecology, which itself is pseudo theory. Permaculture was started by Austrian Farmer Sepp Holzer and developed by Australians Bill Mollison and David Holmgren and their associates. It could be applied to human settlements also.

 

Factor 4: Always go for indigenous ways based on People’s wisdom, their way of living and cultures. They have very valuable wisdom preserved through generations. It may not be recorded, though!

I think both are important, since the castle is part of the culture, and vegetation is part of the life of that culture. You can only remove the vegetation from the castle and leave the big trees that do not destroy the castle. Besides the view must be beautiful there from any angle. I just say preserve your culture.
