Something I must share...my mother as a young woman was stricken with polio and spent the rest of her life in a wheelchair.
As a mother of 6 she drove a car, taught social sciences at U of T and as a relentless champion of accessibility was instrumental in affecting changes to achieve things we now take for granted...door paddles, ramps, elevator subway access etc...which for most of her life did not exist.
So I have a very special interest and some keen personal insight to share on the universal design issues.
Thanks Marcela!

i would like to quote the follwing lines in this regard,

RIBA President Sunand Prasad said:

"The RIBA is here to make the best architecture flourish, because great architecture improves our lives for everyone, irrespective of who they are. Accessibility and the creation of accessible environments is absolutely central to good design and architecture; it is not something that is separate or added on. For too long, accessibility was all about ramps and handrails, but it is much more than that. It is actually about providing environments that are fit for people with a range of abilities, and it is vital that we listen to the needs of different people."
Also you can watch the film based on the same

The film is available to view online at: www.youtube.com/user/ribavideo|
and is also added in my videos list.

Don Rataj has always tried to design beyond the ADA in order to provide total access when possible.
