Federico,

I am glad you could use it and like it. I have read good things about inkscape, as you suggested. Will give it try when I can.

Apparently there is a new page for Kerkythea, I tested it and it worked when I posted, does not work now. Sorry.

Here is the link:

Found it through Wikipedia:

Thanks for the information Jayo. Very much appreciated. I checked Kerkythea.org out however, there seems to be a missing page when I clicked on the repository link. Anyway, I'll keep checking.

I wanted to add http://www.openworkbench.org/ as another open-source project management application.

The terms Free software and Open Source software are sometimes used as the same. Their definitions vary but in practice, the result is very similar: software you can use for free. I have doubts that Intellicad or Progecad are Open Source since the license is controlled by a consortium that sell the rights to the source code. Here are the detailed definitions:

Open Source

Free Software

As such some of my Open Source/Free favorites in terms of architectural practice:

Google SketchUp Free

Open Office

Oz... thanks for the straight forward comment... that is exactly what needs to be done... architects should try alternatives before coming to a decision of what the best software is for us... autodesk and the other major cad software manufacturers have flooded the market and it's gotten to be difficult for architects to even notice alternatives (let alone try it)... i guess what i'm actually advocating is the opportunity to make well informed decisions by exploring alternative and mainstream cad/graphic applications... and the experience you've shared would form a vital feedback for the rest of us ;)

By the way, I am also recently using an alternative for photoshop... it is http://www.gimp.org/ .. The software is actually also called gimp... it's as maneuverable as photoshop although in terms of processing speed, I find that it has, from time to time, some slow down. Nevertheless, it's free and totally usable!
