Hi Neville...BARC, sounds like a great learning experience and a most worthy objective. My response here is not without considerable contemplation on what is for me a vital subject, but it is nonetheles a 'knee jerk' without time for edit /review...…

Why are green plans to generic and unappealing? More importantly how are they defined as green? Is a zero-carbon city in the desert, buzzing with SUVs zero carbon? These are the questions of this Discussion. We launch with a forum at the Shenzhen Bi…

Hi Neviile, Late, I know. Holl did something like this between Fort Worth and Dallas in Texas, US. I agree with Yoav that the rendering is excellent.

Neville Mars 何新城

The body of work Neville Mars is diverse and characteristic. It moves between architecture, planning, research and art installations but has a clear focus on dynamic urban landscapes. In 2003 Neville founded the DCF and outlined a comprehensive research for China’s urbanization for 2020. The work is published entitled “The Chinese Dream – a society under construction” (010 Publisher, June 2008). The project is available on-line and continues to evolve on the online platform.

WHAT IF YOU BUILT THE WHOLE MASS OF WESTERN EUROPE IN 20 YEARS?
WHAT IF 400 MILLION FARMERS THEN MOVED IN?
WHAT WOULD IT LOOK LIKE? HOW WOULD IT WORK?
WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO GO TO SLEEP AT NIGHT?
AND IF YOU DID, WOULD YOU DREAM OF SOMEWHERE ELSE …?

You are working very big projects...
This is specially hard... I am coming from on ex-country /f.d.
Yugoslavia/ which split very fast / 1918-93/ maybe because it was built also very fast / like now China/. AS ARCHITECT, WE WAS LEARNING , AT THIS TIME, NOT TO BIG SEPARATED PARTS OF TOWNS, ONLY AS SLEEPING BOX FOR WORKING CLASS... And we did not make them, we were building very modern... but also, almost, chip... Country split in any way...
Short, I can only worn that, if you big so big new towns for villagers / people which culture still exists on village-level - minimum 8-10 years tills they come in big towns/ you mast maybe accommodate towns, too, little bit more to them, so that they feel more comfortable, special psychologically, and not become some kind of half robots- half human, and in this case with out theirs own opinion and taste /... In any case VERY HARD.../

I am practically beside myself that I have been out of town and forced to miss your talks, which I was very much looking forward to - the Bradbury building is a pleasure to visit, but each of your talks sounded especially interesting and unmissable...aarrggh!!

Completely fascinating book! I tried to order on Amazon (US site) but not yet available. Found it available for pre-order on Amazon UK. Can I get it directly from publisher or independent source rather than Amazon? I suspect this book is required reading, and would like to get it ASAP.

Now 'The Green Edge' paper is available on sustainability as an integral approach in our designs for Chinese cities. Apart from a theoretical essay in provides some background into the proposal for the Green CBD (see animation featured here), that we designed for Tianjin.
