Welcome, keith hancock!

Profile Information

Location
Paignton. Devon. UK
About Me:
This space will become a development of my eulogium persona for a base to study. From here a story should unfold towards the future.
I originally worked for the DOE (Civil Servant)in PSA between 1976 and 1993 and studied Architecture full time between 1981 and 1985 in Devon. UK
I completed 9years of part time study in Technical colleges- City and Guilds and Higher Technical certificates-prior to the Fulltime course in Architecture-so
I Attained the degree status then rejuvenated my career back in Civil Service. Our property branch was closed in 1993 and since then I have worked for and in a variety of practises, usually contracts for agencies. I find this more reliable when getting paid. Most of my critical work int he last 10years has been for Local authorities developing schools in the North around Manchester and Derbyshire and Yorkshire and Cheshire. Autocad and Vector works media have been used on IT and various other affiliated sw packages
My last contract of about 18mths was for Exeter City Council Engineers producing NBS works specification and dwgs and details for the Chief Architect and Engineer. Again Autocad was used to produce high quality details for a similar quality building. I have worked on rather old buildings maintaining and extending which has been rewarding at times.
At present I am trying to produce 3D on the computer in the best possible way that I can, although I have competed rigourously with the machine in more recent years; to produce reasonable hand drafted versions, coupled with models. I serviced the more craft minded architects on Dartmoor in this exchange.
Having discovered The Sketchup 6 coupled with Google Earth, it seems to be an extremely efficient system for my rather standard technician giving me all sorts of fun + surprises I can handle. A revolution in itself.!
I have just been diagnosed as almost there; and I am trying to rehabilitate my chances of survival with it by creating quicky 3 dimensions as quick as I can sketch. My fear at 50yrs old is that I have tricked myself in to believing that I,ve done everything I want to, thats probably because of the amount of dwgs accumalating. Thankyou. Keith
It appears that Sustainability a key word for secondhand + carboot theory informs the sustainable Recycling project we produced in Exeter. Understanding the theory of this is my onlyway way forward right now, my conscience now provoked. (I think i,d rather not think). It was constructed by Mike Baldwin Architect with my assistance and is a spacious office building using natural materials such as Swedish glulam beams and posts and oak cladding and triple Polish glazing with Warmcell shredded paper insulation to the suspended external Floor and Walls and Roof. Moisture and breather membranes were located outside and inside faces + boardings used compatible with location. The project is a success in terms of circulation, organization, space, texture form and colour but I do rather worry about some of the floor surfaces and doors. Contextually it rather revamps an industrial area. I now enjoy the use of timber and would love to study-work and construct Timber buildings using new and traditional methods in USA or Canada. I like the Piloti idea- it seems everywhere will be flooded in the lower basin areas of our earths so I would like to see the machine aesthetic develop the sustainable building in the best ways one can
I hope this gives you an idea about me.
I have loved playing football and ski-ing in the past, they being my greatest passions as well as running - unorthodox left winger.
Most Saturdays in more recent years has seen me watching professional football in an around Manchester. I am presently working out the pros and cons of using the laptop computer; it seems to be a real godsent now.
Although I have travelled and seen a bit of the world upto 2001 I have reluctantly stopped with fright. I Love sketching though and picture taking which often sees another journey.:
Adventure
I,d like to see America and India, maybe bring a Royal Enfield Bulett motorbike back from Delhi with a friend.
Bauhaus School,Walter Segal and Reitveld, Herman Hertsberger and Aaldo van Eyck, Mies van der Roe were Architects I enjoyed as a student. Charles Jencks the theorist and Frank Gehry and Alver Aalto the spatial gods. I hope through patience and your help I may produce a building that most people will enjoy. Thankyou. Keith
