After all these weeks of investigation it is difficult to think it is time to look back and make sense of all in a holistic way. I started creating three street sections (see appendices pages 92, 93 & 94) that showed (1) the existing challenges that Norvella Heights face to be accessible, (2) a diagrammatical section with possible solutions for those challenges, and (3) the location of the access spaces that need to be redesigned for accessibility. Using this section I was able to establish… Continue

The afternoon started by getting in cab and heading south on the FDR, there were a few boats cruising the choppy waters of the bay. As we got out of the taxi on Houston street at the height of the blue painted facade landmark, the colors seemed very brilliant on this day.

Painting and sculpture are now free, inasmuch as anyone may produce any sort of creation and subsequently display it. In architecture, however, this fundamental freedom, which must be regarded as a precondition for any art, does not exist, for a person must first have a diploma in order to build. Why?
Everyone should be able to build, and as long as this freedom to build does not exist, the present-day planned architecture cannot be considered art at all. Our architecture has succumbed to the s… Continue

Garbage can smell terrible, especially rotting organic matter.
But it can also become rich compost for fertilizing the garden.
The fragrant rose and the stinking garbage are two sides of the same existence.
Without one, the other cannot be. Everything is in transformation. The rose that wilts after six days will become a part of the garbage. After six months the garbage is transformed into a rose. When we speak of impermanence, we understand that everything is in transformation. This becomes…Continue
Today I have a day off. Now, in Canada it's work as usual but in Europe everyone is off today so I decided to take it off as well. I hope to spend some time taking photos of buildings downtown; the light is flat; the weather is overcast and cool. If I get anything I will post my first photo to myarchN. Continue

this morning I took a trip over to meet a friend at Starbucks - I could not help thinking about the architecture or lack of in our city of about 126,000 in Greater Moncton. I saw a few older houses that were interesting on the drive over but nothing really to talk about. I'm going to try to take pictures over the next few months of anything that might be interesting.
I can think of a few building and homes that might be good candidates to start with, then from there it will be all seek and find… Continue

Subject: Freedom the Eagle
Date: Thu, 20 Mar 2008 10:38:26 -0700
Dear Ones,
This is a very wonderful example of how our awareness and our 5th dimensional abilities are starting to manifest. Now this takes place often from human to human but this is a great demonstration and how appropriate that it should be so beautifully demonstrated with an interaction between the majestic eagle and man!
We are communicating with the animals on a very deep telepathic level and I think the animals are communic… Continue
One year my brother and I bought those red French berettes, long breadsticks, cheese and some wine and headed off to have a picnic next to the river. We also brought an easel, paper, brushes and paints. We looked tres tres chic & artistic, you know. We both painted landscape in front of us. People would approach to see artist's at work, people looked at us with awe. We looked good. We felt pretty cool. However, after they've approached us - suddenly everyone laughed!- We totally sucked at ar… Continue

"Transformational Space: Japanese Reflections in Frank Lloyd Wright’s House Beautiful"

Margo Stipe, Curator and Registrar of Collections, The Frank Lloyd Wright Archives, Taliesin West
Frank Lloyd Wright’s revolutionary reworking of architectural space has long been credited with changing the way Americans live. Dissolving interior walls and opening the interior spaces to the exterior created a new sense of shelter while allowing communion with the natura… Continue

I’d been camping in Shanghai for nearly two weeks. I thot i’d be returning in a week’s time, but cudn’t finish my work. These Chinese are giving me headaches everyday. It’s amazing how well they can mis-communicate things ….. not that they do it on purpose. One has to keep explaining & re-explaining things ….. in several different ways ……by writing, acting, drawing……. laughing ….. screaming ….. in short, everything at y… Continue

For my Basic Design class we've been given the following assignment:
We need to create 4"x4" cubes that represent a word (that is traditionally unrelated to the idea of a cube) from a list ...
"Limit your investigation to the design field of a 4-inch cube. Work with the assigned “design strategies” word list. Find appropriate materials to work with when creating the cubes. Materials (color, texture, form) will have communicative capacities to assist expressing the meaning of the words. Design… Continue
Time to back track...When looking at my work development I realized I have some areas that needed more consideration. The other day I had a magic realization: I was trying to redevelop the Norvella Heights neighborhood. Now, I understand the big picture. I need to use the neighborhood as a guideline to design the intrinsic elements that will create an intergenerational neighborhood. I have to study the relationships of the area to determine the needs of the community based on accessibility. Then… Continue

After three weeks of joy and one of creative effort I think it is time to get back to thesis work. I used the break to meditate about the changes and clarifications my work needed. In One Life, One Neighborhood and the Accessible In-Between the author tried to create a relationship between housing the elderly and the design of neighborhoods. The context of the thesis work was based in the amount of people turning sixty years old in the next years and their determination to stay active and independent.
