BOLLNOW: HUMAN SPACE

WOW! By case I have discovered the following in the Library of MyarchN:

Somebody had listed the English translation of the most important book of the 20th century: Bollnow's "Human Space"! Its main point: Human space is not the same like the space concept of physics, astronomy and the universe. The Human concept of space looks back on a long historical or anthropological evolution and it is not homogeneous like universal space, but functions according to human conditions, movement… Continue

Animism in architecture

"Animism is a word derived from the Latin Anima which means breath, breath of life, and hence carries with it the idea of the soul or spirit. Animism may be thought of as the doctrine or theory of the soul"
Does todays architecture have a soul?

Architecture and Fashion, "As One"

So do you think Fashion can be on Architecture??? Hmm… I’m afraid it could be. And it could be more perky and spry as what you imagine. But this is not as cheaper as what Rent the Runway do. Since architecture along with fashion is quite innovative and trendy in many ways. Anyway, here are some reasons why they could… Continue

The naive artist of Russia - Elena Volkova

Her work is widely known abroad, her name is entered in the British and American encyclopedia of naive art. And, of course, "the artist", she never studied. environmental sculpture and architecture

TECHNICAL ISSUES. As a plasterer, sculptor, and designer, I love the use of decorative concrete in interior construction and contemporary design, however one of the things that I dislike about it is the aspect of emissions that come from concrete. Not only are there emissions created during the production of concrete, but the cementious ingredient in the concrete recipe still gives off emissions in your home. This is probably small in relation to the amount vapours that all the fabricated… Continue

SOMETIMES THE TRUTH PREVAILS

As noted in a previous blog “Looking for Unbiased Information” I had some unit owners from a Connecticut condominium community ask me to evaluate the condition of their cedar siding. This request was prompted because the community’s board of directors had hired an out-of-state engineering firm to inspect the siding and provide a report that would strongly recommend removing all the cedar siding from 54 units and replace with vinyl siding. The project had bids ranging from $830,000 to over… Continue

The Shapes of Hardcore Architecture

The Shapes of Hardcore Architecture

By N. Frankowski and C. García (WAI)

Modernism

Modern Architecture was a fashion statement. Coated with an ideology of social impromptu and urban reconstruction, it seems undeniable and remarkable that the dominant gene of the Modern Movement’s DNA was its aesthetics.

Everything, from the “hygienic” appearance of its white villas, to its revolutionary materials—glass, steel and concrete, to its grid-restricted urban plans and… Continue

Outdoor advertising in Moscow

QUANTITY

Recently, I often do the counting: how many media outdoor advertising at the same time are in my field of vision. Usually obtained from 8 to 20. Most often they are 8-10, but 18-20 is also not uncommon. (for comparison, in Paris was an average of 1-4, in a particularly crowded places 6-8).

QUALITY

Also, besides the quantitative factor is quality. The quality of the vast majority of Moscow billboards like shit. Uneven surface… Continue
