Architect’s Dress Code‏

I received an email with the subject ‘architect’s dress code‏’ from Tengyuen Ngan. He found photos on google and he compiled them on list so now it is easy to see that the most favorite color for architects to wear is Black.

Apart from their dress code, the other similarities among the male architects are either bald or balding.

but why is that? why normally do they wear in black? it symbolizes that they will use color more cautiously?

The color of the clothes should not contaminate the color of the ideas.
For example the first photographs of architecture were strictly black and white. Black and white is also the contrast betwen light and darkness.
Probabily is also a code.

Michaelangelo was a big fan of the black-wearing-fashion-movement... and kept the color on his work...

I wonder what Gaudi would wear. I'm sure he liked black too.

Wearing black for artists and architects has been a centuries-old tradition. It was very common amongst the artists in Florence back in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance period. This is not something new. Apparently they liked to keep their color on their works. We might still be living in the "Wear black, design white" motto of Modernism, but we can find some quite colorful people out there.

:) this was a good "reason" by Arno Brandlhuber, Berlin (why do architects wear black?) - "They are in mourning about their many unrealised projects."
