My friend from high school whose parents are architects told me once:
-Magda, why the hell you want to be an architect? You'll overwork all your life just like my parents...
After some time I got to know that he decided to go to architecure studies as well.Unfortunately he did not get up and had to choose another course of studies.

I know many people who wanted to study architecture or are actually studying. I don't know architects that are working  - I've got noone like that in my family or friends so when I want to know anything about my future job I can only ask my teachers. But when I'm doing my projects there is one question in my mind - the question of my friend - why to be an architect.

It may look as I'm not sure about what I've chosen to study but it's not like that. I wanted to discuss with all of you all 'for' and 'against' beeing an architect. And maybe - get to know how it actually is when you're working.

Ever since I was little I loved to draw and I was interested in art. Actually I did well with all subjects in school but I was attracted only to architecture. Actually, I did not see any other course of study for me which has been associated with the art and provided good profession  - I had a moment when I wanted to try hand at photography, but I realized that if I do not have enough luck or talent as a photographer, I'll finish doing the Passport photos or photos of weddings. I'm not sure if this area would allow me to grow in such a way as I want it.

So, architecture was a combination of art with something practical. I think that this practical aspect of architecture convinced my parents that his studies are a good choice. If I said to my dad I want to study art I'm quite sure, he wouldn't be so happy with that ;)  ...
On the other hand, design is the act of creation, which gives incredible amount of satisfaction, and what's more, these works may arise in reality. This makes it even more attractive to me.

But just now I'm overworking myself doing various projects from town planning, mechanics, physics, construction, and of course design. Approaching the date of commissioning of several works, the dates of exams. I stay up nights, sleep too short (guess 2h per day is not so much, isn't it?), I am sitting at the computer all the time and I'm drawning subsequent lines in AutoCad. I know I look like a zoombie now. Sad but true. The saddest thing is that I'm really diligent student. Maybe even to diligent...

Please - tell me something optimistic about beeing an architect - console me a little because it's so extremely tiring now. And it'll be just like that in next 3 weeks.

Some humour about beeing an architect?:

Dear Magda, in your text I found some of my own thoughts as well. I decided to study architecture because it is a combination of art with something practical. After having already a 5 year deegre in Civil Engineering, I was feeling that art was missing from my life. I was very interested in art since my childhood... So I wanted to put it strongly in my life. So I decided to get one more university deegre. I had to choose between a deegre in Fine Arts or one in Architecture. I chose thw second because I could combine it with the dilpoma of civil engineering and the master in Monuments; Conservation I allready had. I don;t regret for the many years I have spent in University lessons. I feel I have finally chosen the right way: And this is Architecture and all the satisfaction and happiness that it brings to my life.

I don't feel it's so important to me to get second job like photographer right now. Today it's only my hobby but maybe one day I'll find time to spend more time on doing it.

You cannot be 'too sexy' :P Well, it's not dangerous when having 'as sexy as you are-singer-architect' second half. I guess that's what saves me, hahah :)
